Quality Control Definition
Quality control refers to a set of procedures through which businesses review their manufactured products to ensure they meet standard quality requirements. There are certain standards or qualities that products must meet, failure of the products to meet the stipulated qualities means they must be improved upon.
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO). as part of its quality management, technique specified quality and standards that products must fulfill. To avoid manufacturing products that fall short of the desired quality, organizations continuously improve the quality of their products and reduced all errors to the barest minimum. Organizations train their personnel and set standards the productions must meet as well as the control, that must be applied to avoid errors.

Quality control is important to every company or business. Having well-established controls for business operations is the basis of quality control, once there are well-defined controls, the employees of a company need to be trained in order to meet the qualities and minimize errors. Quality control must be carried out in every process of a business operation to ensure that products meet the required specifications. Testing the units of a product to determine whether they are within the scope of quality standards is essential.
When testing is done, it helps to determine areas that should be corrected in the manufacturing process. Quality control does not only helps businesses meet quality standards, but it also helps to meet the demands or desires of consumers.
Quality Control Measures Depend on the Product
There are several approaches or measures used for quality control, this is to say that there is no one way to quality control. The type of product a company manufactures determines the quality control measures that will be used. For instance, in pharmaceutical products, quality control entails that a particular product meets the required quality and those not pose a threat to the health of the users. In food production, quality control entails making sure a food item does not constitute food poisoning.
Quality control is used in manufacturing, regardless of the type of product being manufactured. In automobile manufacturing, for instance, quality control is making sure that a vehicle meets road worthiness qualities and other criteria. The engine must be working perfectly and other parts of the vehicle fit to minimize road accidents.
The Role of Quality Control Inspectors
There are inspectors and regulatory bodies that ensure that products meet quality control criteria, this will help avoid hazards and protect consumers from damages they might face if they purchase products of poor quality. Products that fail to meet the stipulated quality standards are called defective products, quality control inspectors ensure that consumers do not fall victim of defective products. Defective products can occur in any product line, an automobile, an electronic appliance, food products, clothing items, and others can be defective. Inspectors test products to ensure they are not defective, defective products can be repaired by inspectors themselves or rejected which means it will be returned to the company for repair.
