What is Upselling?
Upselling is the suggestion of additional goods or services (or the suggestion of an more expensive product or additional feature or options) to increase the value of a sale.
Many business models depend entirely on upselling to become profitable. That is, the base model product will be a low-margain product, or even a loss leader. Selling this product alone will not make the business profitable. As such, salespeople focus on selling the product with additional feature or options. These options have a much higher profit margin.
