What is Promotion?
How will you make your product known? Promotion regards the activities that you use to make your customers aware of your products and services, including advertising, sales tactics, promotions and direct marketing. Promotion generally consists of:
- Advertising
- Publicity
- Sales Promotion
- Personal Selling
What are the Goals of Promotion?
The three main goals of promotion are to inform, persuade, and remind.
Usually we don’t do all of these at once. Our efforts depend upon the age of our product, how long we’ve been around as a brand, or the market situation (the level of competition). All of those things would influence the particular goal that we try to achieve with our promotion.
When it comes to informing, if we’re a new brand or a new product, we need to let people know about us and our product. So, we need to inform them about us or what’s going on. If we’re a product that’s been around for a little while (but we’ve also got competition) we might need to persuade the audience that they should choose us or that we’re the best, that’s a common goal for promotion as well.
Finally, if we are a long-standing option on the market or a well-established brand, we might just need to remind people that we are still around, the best, and you should buy from us.
