Certified Investment Management Specialist – CIMS

The Institute for Investment Management Consultants issues the Certified Investment Management Specialist (CIMS) as a professional designation to qualified individuals who are investment managers. CIMS is issued to candidates who undergo a course study with the institute, pass the exam and have the required experience in financial services. CIMS became a professional designation in that could be recognized on its own without being attached to any other certification in 2002. Before this time, CIMS was a lower-level designation.

After CIMC program was consolidated with the Certified Investment Manager Analyst (CIMA) program, CIMS emerged as a professional designations. Both programs were run by the Investment Management Consultants Association before they were collapsed into one. CIMA had been in existence since 1988 and the holders of its designation were not denied using the certification. Individuals who earn the CIMS certification are those with knowledge, experience and expertise in financial accounting and investment management.
