What is the Behavioral Approach to Management?
The Behavioral Theory of Management, often referred to as Neo-Classical Management Theory, focuses upon individual behavior, motivations, and social interactions. Specifically, it incorporates the study of human behavior through psychology, sociology, and anthropology.
The Behavioral approach was a reaction to the short-comings of classical management theory that focused on individual productivity and through efficiency and organizational structure. These approaches failed to adequately account for the human aspects of organizational performance.
Behavioral Management Theory can be broken unto two major theories:
- Human Relations Theory
- Behavioral Science Theory
