What is the 3C Model on Leadership (Thornton)?
The 3C Model on Leadership, proposed by Paul B. Thornton (1999), claims as a leader you can “make the difference” by Challenging people, building their Confidence, and Coaching them to succeed:
- Leaders CHALLENGE the status quo by
- 1. moving others out of their comfort zones;
- 2. creating a compelling vision;
- 3. establishing stretch goals;
- 4. asking challenging questions.
- Leaders build CONFIDENCE by
- 1. believing in people;
- 2. pointing out their strengths and affirming talents;
- 3. rewarding and recognizing improvement;
- 4. empowering people with authority.
- Leaders are COACHES by:
- 1. clarifying what top performance looks like;
- 2. conducting practice sessions;
- 3. providing helpful feedback.
