Why are Ethics Important in Marketing?
Marketing might consist of micro-marketing and macro-marketing. Micro-marketing is what businesses do to sell products. That’s what we think of when we hear marketing. But marketing also can be thought of in terms of macro marketing, which is a system for allocating resources. While ethics in micro-marketing is important, it is particularly important that we use ethics in deciding how resources should be allocated.
In today’s world we have pretty strong rules around product liability and consumer safety. While acting ethically is not a complete defense against harm caused when marketing, many of the consumer protection and safety measures are aimed at curtailing deceptive and unethical practices.
News travels fast. Information moves with ever-increasing speed in the community. As such, your ethical practices are going to affect your brand and the on-going success of your business.
