What is Environmental Scanning?
Environmental scanning is done to identify potential environmental uncertainty. More specifically, it concerns scanning the immediate environment for environmental contingencies facing the organization. Planners use this information to forecast future conditions.
Environmental scanning often involves the search for Competitor Intelligence used to anticipate competitor actions. It also entails using business intelligence to make data-driven decisions. Tools for environmental scanning are those that produce any form of relative qualitative or quantitative information.
