This chapter introduces the concept of civil litigation (suing someone or bringing a lawsuit). More specifically, it explores the methods and procedure for enforcing ones rights in a civil lawsuit. It introduces the individuals involved in a civl trial and provides a detailed explanation of the mechanics of a proceeding. It explains the authority for a court to adjudicate certain types of actions and explains what elements must be present for a court to legally subject individuals to its authority. Lastly, the chapter will explore the post-trial stages and the remedies and enforcement mechanisms available to the litigating parties.
